Best-ever results for annual TD United Way Employee Giving campaign - up 21 per cent year-over-year

TORONTO, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Despite the challenging economic times, TD employees and retirees from across Canada stepped up and raised a record-breaking $10,137,208 as part of the Bank's annual TD United Way Employee Giving campaign. Together, TD employees and retirees donated $7 million with the remaining $3.1 million coming from TD corporate donations. Every dollar contributed as part of the campaign goes directly to United Way and other charities in Canada to support causes such as youth employment programs, newcomer settlement services, shelters, food banks and other vital social services in hundreds of communities.

"Our results show that when it comes to helping those in need, TD employees past and present are ready, willing and able to make a difference together," said Ed Clark, President and CEO, TD. "Thanks to our employees' relentless enthusiasm and generosity, we can take great pride in knowing our donations will have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children, seniors and families across Canada who are less fortunate."

This year's campaign, which ran from November 9-27, 2009, was the most successful to date, up 21 per cent year-over-year.

"Our employees make an incredible difference in their communities through personal donations and fundraising events, and in 2009 - when needs were especially great - they went the extra mile to open their hearts and wallets," said Kevin Whyte, SVP Wealth Management and TD Campaign Co-Chair. "The results are a testament to our employees who constantly strive to lend a hand and give back to those who need support, no matter what."

Since 2002, TD has raised over $58 million for United Way and other charitable organizations across Canada as part of its annual fundraising campaign for employees and retirees.
