TD employees in Ontario raise $7.7 million for United Way and other charities
Results for annual TD Charitable Giving campaign are up 17% year-over-
year
TORONTO, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - More than 35,000 TD Bank Financial Group
employees from across Ontario recently proved that with creative thinking and
strong teamwork, you can truly make a difference together. TD raised a record
$7,776,509 during its annual Charitable Giving campaign, which ran from
October 22 to November 9, 2007. The money raised goes to the United Way of
Greater Toronto and other charities across Canada. TD employees raised
$5,860,655 - up 17% year-over-year - with the remaining amount coming from a
TD corporate donation of $1,915,854.
"We're committed to the communities in which we work, live and play, and
year after year TD employees demonstrate an inexhaustible spirit and
impressive ability to raise funds for the United Way and other charities,"
said Brian Haier, Executive Vice President Retail Banking and Chair of TD's
Charitable Giving Campaign for Ontario. "Together we raise an incredible
amount of money in a very short amount of time, funds that will benefit the
lives of many individuals and families and make our communities stronger. I'm
very proud to be a part of such a dedicated team."
During the campaign, TD employees in Ontario were able to donate to any
registered charity or non-profit of their choice in Canada. Demonstrating
spirit and ingenuity, employees held various fundraising activities across the
province helping to raise a record amount of money this year. Examples of
fundraising activities include:
- One department held a video game challenge among its employees for
the best "Guitar Hero."
- Another group of employees decided to bring back the kindergarten era
by competing in a tricycle race for the United Way.
- Many held Halloween themed events such as cubicle decorating contests
and pumpkin carving.
Over the past five years, TDBFG and its employees have raised over
$35 million for the United Way of Greater Toronto and charitable organizations
across Canada as part of its annual TD Charitable Giving campaign.
