TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - TD Canada Trust is gearing up for Pride and
today announced its return as a major sponsor and the Official Bank of Pride
Week 2008 in Toronto, one of the largest arts and culture festivals in Canada,
and one of the largest Pride celebrations in the world. Drawing over one
million people to the streets of Toronto, Pride Week runs from June 20-29,
2008.
"In Toronto, June is synonymous with two events: kicking off the summer
season and celebrating Pride Week," says Paul Douglas, Executive Vice
President, TD Canada Trust Business Banking. "Being the 'Official Bank' of
Pride Week is one of the ways TD is involved. But even more important is our
support of Pride Toronto's volunteer program, which is the heart and soul of
Pride Week. I'm proud of the fact our TD Pride Network of employees will be
out in full force, participating in events all week long, in addition to
marching in the parade."
TD activities during Pride Week 2008 include:
- The TD Canada Trust Wellesley Stage: Pride Week Street Festival's
main music stage is located on Wellesley Street East, between Yonge
and Church Streets, and running this year from June 28-29. Expect
fabulous performances from Melanie C, a.k.a Sporty Spice,
The Parachute Club, Jully Black, Thelma Houston and many more! For a
complete listing of performers, dates and times visit
www.pridetoronto.com.
- A float in the Pride Parade on June 29 in support of the
CanStage TD Dream in High Park production of Shakespeare's
A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Pride Parade is the best attended
single day event in Canada and the TD Pride Network, made up of
employees, family and friends, will be marching.
- PALAIS PRIDE 08, the biggest and hottest lesbian event of the year!
Sponsored by TD Canada Trust, the party takes place at the
Palais Royale on Friday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m. with part of the
proceeds going to support lesbian health initiatives at
Women's College Hospital. For more information or to purchase
tickets, visit www.palaisroyale.ca or www.ticketweb.ca.
- The Church/Wellesley and Yonge/Carlton branches of TD Canada Trust
are open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and will be
serving the large number of people who attend Pride Week 2008.
"Every few years, a pioneering company takes the first trepidations step
towards supporting our event and the LGBT community, leading the way for other
mainstream sponsors. TD Canada Trust is one of those pioneering businesses who
have been unequivocal and generous in their support of Pride Toronto and our
community from the very beginning of our partnership. We're thrilled to be
working with them again for Pride Week 2008," says Fatima Amarshi, Executive
Director of Pride Toronto.
TD Community Giving: Making a Difference Together
Children's health, literacy and education, and the environment are the
three main areas of focus for community giving at TD. Flagship programs within
these areas include: TD Children's Hospital Fund; TD Friends of the
Environment Foundation; TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup; TD Canadian
Children's Book Week; TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership;
and the TD Summer Reading Club. With support from customers and employees, TD
is also involved with a host of national, regional and local causes benefiting
diversity, arts and culture and other community programs. In 2007, TD donated
$33 million to more than 2,000 organizations across Canada.
