Ten students across Canada receive TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship
Scholarship award is an investment in the future of the Canadian agriculture industry TORONTO, Nov. 10 /CNW/ - The Canadian 4-H Council and TD Bank Financial Group today announced the ten recipients of the 2008 TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship Award. The scholarship provides 10 students with a $2,500 award to be used towards their post-secondary education in agriculture-related or agri-business studies. The scholarship is awarded to those students who plan to enroll in post-secondary education in an agriculture or agri-business related discipline and demonstrate the highest academic standing in the following geographical regions: BC/Yukon, Western Canada/NWT/Nunavut, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. "The TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship is an investment in the future of the Canadian agricultural industry," explained Bob McAuley, president of the Canadian 4-H Council. "We are extremely pleased to offer this scholarship from TD Bank Financial Group, and I would like to extend our gratitude to TD for supporting 4-H in Canada for more than 50 years." The 2008 TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarship recipients are: Megan Keis, Abbotsford, BC; Mary Beck, Dewdney, BC; Kaitlyn Schurmann, Abbotsford, BC; Cody Coleman, Innisfail, AB; Renae Zook, Trochu, AB; Joni Marie Alexander, Eastend, SK; Marsha Dudar, Ethelbert, MB; Lindsay Dunn, Grafton, ON; Meghan Black, Carleton County, NB; and Karen Strechler, Bon Shaw, PEI. The TD 4-H Agriculture Scholarships are open to 4-H members in their last year of high school who are planning to enroll in post-secondary education in agriculture or agri-business related discipline. "The Canadian agriculture business is a core economic industry and as such, we need to help develop our future agri-business leaders," said Craig Bremner, Vice President, Agriculture Services, TD Canada Trust. "4-H members have an excellent track record of giving back to their communities and the agriculture industry, and we are proud to support them as they realize their dreams through higher learning." TD Community Giving: Making a Difference Together Children's health, literacy and education, and the environment are the three main areas of focus for community giving at TD. Flagship programs within these areas include: TD Children's Hospital Fund; TD Friends of the Environment Foundation; TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup; TD Canadian Children's Book Week; TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership; and the TD Summer Reading Club. With support from customers and employees, TD is also involved with a host of national, regional and local causes benefiting diversity, arts and culture and other community programs. In 2007, TD donated $33 million to more than 2,000 organizations across Canada.
