Media Advisory: Frank McKenna to kick-off the 14th annual TD Summer Reading Club in Hamilton on June 9th
Free reading club will inspire kids "to crack the case on literacy" like
their favourite spy
TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ -
WHAT: Beginning June 9, the 2009 TD Summer Reading Club will encourage
more than 250,000 children to unlock the secrets of reading at
their local libraries this summer. A tradition for more than a
decade, this joint initiative between Library and Archives Canada,
the Toronto Public Library and TD Bank Financial Group will help
more than 2,000 libraries across Canada welcome children under age
12 as they enjoy an 'Agent 009' themed summer reading club.
The TD Summer Reading Club is a great way for kids to improve
their reading skills in an environment that's both educational and
fun. Studies also show that kids who continue reading throughout
the summer will maintain or improve their reading and
comprehension skills so they'll be in great shape when school
kicks off again in the fall.
The program will also feature the announcement of a new
partnership with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind
(CNIB) as children with vision loss will join in the TD Summer
Reading Club.
The official launch of the 2009 TD Summer Reading Club will take
place at the Hamilton Public Library in Hamilton, Ontario with
students from Ray Lewis Public School and this year's TD Summer
Reading Club illustrator.
