TD Canada Trust support of music hits right note with Canadians
Bank's music sponsorships expand to include Juno's, Canadian Idol,
L'heure de Gloire and Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame Gala
TORONTO, Feb. 8 /CNW/ - Music programs, festivals, the nurturing of
musical talent - all contribute in important ways to keeping our communities
culturally vibrant. After years of sponsoring jazz festivals and music
programs across Canada, TD Canada Trust has seen firsthand how much music
means to Canadians as both an expression of cultural identity and a source of
comfortable enjoyment. In recognition of this, TD Canada Trust has increased
its support of music this year to include sponsorship of the Juno Awards,
Canadian Idol - a popular television show that searches for and spotlights
young Canadian musical talent, Quebec's L'heure de Gloire - a popular Quebec
show that features celebrities learning to sing, and presenting sponsorship of
the Juno Award winning Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame Awards Gala - an
organization dedicated to Canada's rich songwriting heritage.
In addition, TD Canada Trust is also continuing its corporate
sponsorships of major jazz festivals in Canada, including Halifax, Montreal,
Ottawa, Saskatchewan, Vancouver, Victoria and Winnipeg, to 2010. The agreement
continues TD Canada Trust's four year relationship with the festivals and will
also help to fund local festival programs which focus on enhancing music
appreciation and skills among young Canadians. In the past, TD has supported a
number of initiatives including music scholarships, in-school programs, music
camps for disadvantaged children and opportunities for youth to perform at
public events.
"We've seen the tremendous appreciation people have shown for our support
of music in their communities. Whether you love East Coast folk, Montreal jazz
or West Coast rock, music is an important part of who we are and it means a
lot to Canadians to nurture and preserve it," said Tim Hockey, Group Head,
Personal Banking and Co-Chair, TD Canada Trust. "Adding music sponsorships
like Canadian Idol and L'heure de Gloire just increases the fun and excitement
for us. These shows have done a lot to build enthusiasm in young Canadians for
listening to and learning about music. Any venue that raises positive
awareness of home grown talent is a good thing."
TD Bank Financial Group is committed to supporting music across Canada.
In addition to supporting music festivals, TD Bank Financial Group sponsors
the Royal Conservatory of Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the
Canadian Opera Company and also supports a variety of local, regional and
national programs across Canada promoting literacy, health, education and the
environment.
